My story is one of hard work and dedication to service. I am the the youngest of four children who was raised by a Mother who was a surgical nurse and a single parent.  My mother Katherine taught us the value of hard work and the value of education.  I  received my an  Associate Degree from East Los Angeles College in Early Childhood Education, attended Cal State Los Angeles and Pacific Oaks in Pasadena, California.

I became director of The Foothill Developmental School; a non- profit that provided special services for both disabled and non- disabled children in the San Gabriel Valley. I  later developed and implemented a curriculum for Union Bank Childcare Center, one of the first centers in the San Gabriel Valley to provide on- site childcare for its employees.

After starting my family I volunteered for presidential, state and local campaigns. I eventually became a delegate to the California Democratic Party for State Senator Hilda Solis. I would eventually go to work for the then senator who would later become a Congresswoman. I  became district director for Solis’ congressional office and in that capacity, I advocated for working families, veterans, immigrants, students, seniors and any others that needed federal intervention.

I was inspired to run for office and was successful. I was first elected to the Alhambra Unified School District Board of Education in November of 2004 and have served in that capacity for 14 years.  I have served as President, Vice President, and I am currently Clerk to the board.  I now help lead the district I attended years ago.   Our budget is approximately one hundred eighty million dollars and we have seventeen thousand students. We are the largest employer in Alhambra.

I am knowledgeable of California and national public school issues, and am an untiring advocate for all children.  In addition, I work very effectively with our legislators to promote the interest of children and public education.
